Normal plaster sand is inconsistent in term of clay content and is not recommended for plastering of walls. Also known as Local Pit Sand, the most common application for building sand is to use it as mortar mix for the laying of bricks. This sand is quarried from pits and is typically brown, red or yellow in colour, depending on the area.

Local Pit is generally not recommended for face brick as it is more likely to change colour at any given time and is generally coarser than Red, Yellow or Black Pit Sand.
